About DocPixEdit

DocPixEdit is an international document photo and image preparation toolkit that runs entirely in your web browser. It exists because getting a compliant passport, visa or ID photo should not require uploading your face to a stranger’s server, paying for a subscription, or guessing at sizes.

What we believe

  • Privacy is not a feature, it is the default. Your photo stays on your device.
  • Requirements are data, with sources. Every size and rule we show links to where it came from and when we last checked it.
  • Honesty over hype. We say “estimated” when something is estimated and never claim a photo is “government approved”.
  • Your face is your face. No reshaping, no automatic beauty filters.
  • Phones first. Most people take and submit document photos on a phone.

Who it is for

Passport and visa applicants, students, job seekers, travellers, immigration applicants, photo studios, print shops, HR teams, schools and anyone who needs an image at an exact size.

How DocPixEdit works

Everything happens inside your browser. When you choose a photo it is decoded into memory, cropped and resampled on a canvas, and encoded back to a JPG, PNG or PDF that your browser saves directly to your device. There is no upload step, no queue and no account, because there is no server doing any of the work.

The preview and the exported file come from the same rendering code, so what you see is what you download — at the exact pixel dimensions the standard asks for, with the DPI written into the file so a print shop reproduces the right physical size.

Where the requirements come from

Every country and document preset is a record with a source: the authority that publishes the rule, a link to the page or document, the date we last read it, and how confident we are in it. We do not paraphrase beyond what the source says, and we never state a requirement we could not find published.

That also means we never tell you a photo will be accepted. Software can measure pixels, head height and file size; it cannot judge expression, lighting or likeness the way a person at a counter does. The checks in the editor are advisory measurements, and each requirement page shows its source so you can confirm it yourself.

You can read every record we hold on the photo requirements page, or browse them by country.

The optional AI features

Face detection and background removal use small open-source models (Google’s MediaPipe, Apache-2.0) that download once and then run on your device, including offline. They help place the crop and separate you from the background; they do not identify you, build a profile, or transmit anything.

They are also optional. If the models cannot load — an old browser, a blocked download, a slow connection — every tool still works: you crop manually, pick a background colour, and export exactly as before.

How it stays free

The site is static files on a content delivery network. There is no server-side processing to pay for, no database, no per-image API cost, and no third-party analytics or advertising. That is why the core tools can be free without a watermark, a sign-up or a subscription, and why we can promise your photo never leaves your device.
