About this tool
Visa applications are increasingly digital, and the digital rules are often stricter than the printed ones: an exact pixel size or aspect ratio, a minimum and maximum file size in kilobytes, a specific file type, sometimes a maximum age. The Visa Photo Maker applies those limits from the requirement record for your destination, then encodes the file to fit the size window on your device.
Where a consulate still wants printed photos — Schengen applications, for example — the same tool outputs the millimetre size and a print sheet. Every record shows the authority, the source page and the date we last checked it, so you can confirm the rule yourself before you apply.
How it works
- Upload or capture a recent photo against a plain, light background.
- Select the destination country and the visa or e-visa record. The frame, the pixel size and the file-size limit come from that record.
- Fit the face, fix the background colour if required, and review the checks — including the estimated file size.
- Download the JPG. If the portal enforces a maximum in KB, the exported file is already within it; if you need it smaller still, use the compressor.
Good to know
- Portals usually reject files by size before they look at the image. Keep the exported JPG inside the stated KB window rather than as large as possible.
- Use the same photo for the online form and any printed copy so the two match.
- Photos of a photo, scans of a passport page and screenshots are rejected by most portals — start from an original camera image.

Questions about this tool
The portal says my file is too large. What should I do?
Open the Image Compressor, enter the maximum size in KB from the portal and download. It lowers JPEG quality first and only reduces pixel dimensions if it has to, so the photo stays as sharp as the limit allows.
Do you support the US DS-160 photo requirements?
Yes — the United States visa record covers the 600 × 600 to 1200 × 1200 px JPEG rules with the file-size cap, taken from the U.S. Department of State photo page linked on the requirement page.
Can I remove the background for a visa photo?
You can replace it with white or another plain colour on your device. Keep the result natural: a hard, cut-out edge around hair is a common reason for a manual review. Use the touch-up brush on any stray areas before exporting.
