About this tool
A passport photo has to meet two kinds of rules at once: the physical or pixel size the authority prints or uploads, and the composition inside the frame — how large the head is, where the eyes sit, what the background looks like. This tool handles both. Pick your country and document, and the crop frame, output size and advisory checks follow the requirement record we publish for it, with the official source and the date we last verified it.
Everything runs in your browser. The photo is decoded, cropped, resampled and encoded on your device; nothing is uploaded, and nothing is kept once you close the tab. The result is a plain JPG or PNG at the exact pixel size — or a print sheet on 4 × 6 in, A4 or Letter paper — that you submit yourself.
How it works
- Upload a photo or take one with your camera. Use a plain, evenly lit wall and stand about 1.5 m from the camera so the face is not distorted.
- Choose the country and document. The frame takes the required size and, where the authority publishes them, the head-height and eye-line ranges.
- Fit the face with the guides or the one-click auto-fit. Straighten, adjust brightness if needed, and replace the background if the rules ask for a plain colour.
- Read the checks, then download the JPG or PNG. For paper applications, open the print sheet to place several copies on one page at 300 DPI.
Good to know
- Face the camera directly with a neutral expression and both eyes open; most authorities reject smiles that show teeth and any tilt of the head.
- Use daylight from the front rather than an overhead lamp; shadows on the face or on the wall behind you are a common rejection reason.
- Do not use filters, beauty modes or retouching. DocPixEdit only crops, resizes and adjusts exposure — it never reshapes a face, and neither should you.
- Check the recency rule: many countries want a photo taken within the last six months, and the UK and Canada are stricter about matching your current appearance.

Questions about this tool
Will the passport office accept a photo I made here?
We cannot promise that. The tool applies the technical requirements we recorded from the official source shown on each requirement page, and flags what it can measure. Acceptance is always decided by the issuing authority, which also checks things software cannot — expression, glare, likeness. Use the checks as guidance, not as approval.
Which size should I choose if my country is not listed?
Use the Document Photo Maker with a custom size in millimetres or pixels taken from the authority's instructions, or start from the ICAO 9303 guideline (35 × 45 mm) that most countries derive their rules from. If you can send us the official page, we can add the country.
Can I print the photo at home?
Yes. The Print Sheet tool places copies on 4 × 6 in or 5 × 7 in photo paper, A4, A5 or US Letter at 300 DPI with cut lines. Print at 100 % scale on photo paper — but note that some authorities (Canada, for example) only accept photos from a commercial photographer.
DocPixEdit provides technical guidance and automated checks based on the requirements and sources listed on this page. Requirements can change, and final acceptance is determined by the relevant authority. Always verify current requirements before submission.
